Barbara Walters, the pioneering TV journalist and legendary broadcaster whose interviewing skills made her one of the most prominent figures in broadcasting, has died. Walters was born on September 25, 1929 and died on December 30, 2022. She was 93 years.

In a statement announcing her death, her spokesperson Cindy Berger said:

What happened to Barbara Walters?

Though her spokesperson did not state a cause of death, Walters did have some health challenges, having struggled with heart issues in the past.

In May 2010, Walters revealed that she would be having open heart surgery to replace a faulty aortic valve.

Walters had been suffering from aortic valve stenosis, even though she was symptom-free.

After the procedure to fix the faulty heart valve, her spokeswoman, Cindi Berger said that the procedure “went well, and the doctors are very pleased with the outcome.”

Walters returned to The View and her Sirius XM satellite show, Here’s Barbara, in September 2010.

Walters retired permanently from both shows four years later.
