Bar Refaeli Biography
Refaeli was born and reared in Hod HaSharon, Israel, by a secular Jewish family. Her last name, a variant of the biblical angel Raphael, literally translates as “my God heals,” while her given name means “wild” (as in wilderness).
Refaeli’s parents were both born in Israel. Her grandparents left Italy and left Poland and Lithuania. Her grandparents were Holocaust survivors. Her father, Refael “Rafi” Refaeli, originally ran a horse stable, and her mother, Tzipora “Tzipi” Levine, was a model in the 1970s.
Her younger brothers are the businessman Dor Refaeli and the musician On Refaeli. She also has an older half-brother named Neil Ben-Porat as a result of her mother’s first marriage to Israeli entrepreneur Yehousha “Shuki” Ben-Porat.
Refaeli debuted in advertisements at the age of eight months, at which point she started modeling. Refaeli’s modeling career was stopped by orthodontic treatment at age 12 until she was 15 and was named “Model of the Year” at an Israeli fashion awards gala (2000).
