Has Backpacker Simone Strobel’s 2005 Death Mystery Solved?

It’s been 17 years that German backpacker Simone Strobel was mysteriously killed in Australia.

She had been backpacking there since 2004 and was just 25 years old, living with her former boyfriend Tobias Moran, who was then Tobias Suckful.

In January 2005, the backpacking couple was joined by Tobias’ sister Kathrin and her boyfriend Jens Martin for a month. Then, on 11 February, four of them checked into the Lismore Tourist Caravan Park. And later that night of 11-12 Feb, Simone disappeared from the campsite.

A few days later, on 17 February, her clothless body was discovered by a dog handler. Her corpse was not far from her vehicle and was found on the grounds of the Lismore Continental Club, under palm fronds.

After the autopsy, police discovered she was the victim of the crime and was killed by suffocation. New South Wales officials revealed either a pillow or plastic might have been used to suffocate her. The case analyst also stated that more than one person was involved in the crime.

To solve the case, strike forces were established. The NSW government also offered a $1 million reward in 2020. Finally, a suspect has been apprehended, and it seems the case might finally get solved. But yet, court hearings are left.

Killer Boyfriend Tobias Moran Arrested

Police core suspect for Simone’s murder was no other than her then-boyfriend Tobias Moran.

The NSW Police arrested the 42-year-old after a warrant was issued against him in connection with the case. However, according to The Guardian, he has already faced the magistrate court from custody following the extradition application.

The cops almost detained him, but Deputy Paul McMahon realized there was insufficient evidence to recommend any charges against him. Thus, most people believe her boyfriend is the killer.

Even in the investigation, it was found that Moran and others on the trip had lied during the investigations. And none of them has given any statement following the allegations.

Who Are Simone Strobel Freund And Familie?

Simone Strobel families lived in Wurzburg. Her mother, Gabi, spoke to the media and stated that it was very hard for her and her husband to digest what they had heard.

She further revealed they did not expect anything of such degree to happen to their daughter, but they now had to accept the fact. The family and friends of the victim were seeking justice and might have felt the case would go somewhere after NSW cops had arrested her then-boyfriend.

Additionally, following her case, a book was also written by an Australian author Virginia Peters entitled Have You Seen Simone? But her former freund filed a lawsuit against the author for defamation but lost.
