Balkrishan Ganpatrao MatapurkarHindi: डा. बालक्रिशन गणपतराव मातापुरकर is an Indian medical researcher and multi-lingual poet. He first defined the term “organ regeneration” and was awarded a US patent on adult stem cells used for organ regeneration.

Early life

He was born in Morar, Lashkar, district- Gwalior. Early education in Middle school, Morar. Maharudra Mandle school, Lashkar, Gwalior. Jiwaji Rao intermediate college, Lashkar, Gwalior MP. Maharani Laxmibai Science Collage, Gwalior, MP. He got a degree MBBS from medical college at Gajara Raja Medical College, Gwalior. He was awarded Master of Surgery (MS) from M A Medical College, Delhi University. He developed the world’s first organ regeneration technique while at Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi.

Career

He received US Patent  6227202 in 1996 and U.S. International patent No. 20020007223 in 2003. The research is based on Matapurkar’s Hypothesis – published in sc. journals and registered in 1994. His work was listed in Limka Book of World Records in 2002. The invention and research work has been published in standard Medical text books. New physiological phenomenon of mammalian body “Desired Metaplasia” discovered by him which is responsible for Regeneration of tissues and organs in the body has been published in text books of physiology. Even though the patent was issued in 1995, human use of the research was published in 1991 in the World Journal of Surgery. This research has follow up of patients for 15 years. The research credit dates back to 1976.
He developed two new surgical operations published in reputed science journals – WJS – 1991, 1999 & IJU – 1995

He has composed poems in Marathi, Hindi and English. His poetry collection is published in 1995 – Satyabrahm Geet. Another collection published by Nandini publisher of Pune, Maharashtra is Satyabrahm Jaganmithya.
