Did Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Resign?
Following the fatal railway accident, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala called for Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s resignation.
Surjewala listed nine reasons why Vaishnaw should step down from his post. One of the reasons cited was a warning issued in February 2023 by the Chief Operating Manager of South Western Railway Zone, which highlighted the failure of the signaling system.
The official raised concerns about severe flaws in the system, including alterations in the dispatch route after a train has already started on signals with the correct appearance of the route in the SMS panel.
The warning emphasized the need for close monitoring and correction of the signal maintenance system to prevent recurring accidents.
