Ashten Regan is a Scottish politician who served as Minister for Community Safety from 2018 to 2022. A member of the Scottish National Party (SNP), she has been the Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Edinburgh Eastern since 2016.
Regan declared her candidacy for SNP Leader and First Minister of Scotland on February 18, 2023. She finished third among the three contenders with 11.1% of the vote.
Regan is a backbencher at the moment. Regan declared her candidacy for the 2023 Scottish National Party leadership election after Sturgeon declared her plan to step down as the party’s leader and first minister of Scotland.
She received 11.1% of the vote, placing third among the three candidates, and lost in the first round of voting.

Regan declared she would drop the Gender Recognition Reform Bill, work to pass new legislation to ensure that all transgender inmates are housed in facilities that correspond to their biological sex, not their gender identification, and suggested “a trans wing on the prison estate.”
Regarding independence, Regan stated that she would start talks with the UK government the following time political parties in favour of Scottish independence received more than 50% of the vote overall in an election to either parliament, as opposed to Sturgeon’s proposal to use the upcoming Scottish Parliament or House of Commons election as a de facto referendum on the issue.
Along with other political parties and organizations that want Scottish independence, she declared she would set up a constitutional convention.
