Arthur William “Art” Bell, III (born June 17, 1945) is an American broadcaster and author who is most known for being one of the creators and first hosts of the paranormal radio show Coast to Coast AM. He also developed and presented the show’s companion, Dreamland. He presented the programme several Saturdays for the next four years after semi-retiring from Coast to Coast AM in 2003. On July 1, 2007, he announced his retirement from weekend hosting, although he continued to serve as a guest host until 2010. He cited a desire to spend more time with his new wife and daughter, who was born on
May 30, 2007, as the reason for his retirement. He went on to say that, unlike his past “retirements,” this one will be permanent, with the opportunity to return. Some cities broadcast classic Bell-hosted episodes of Coast to Coast AM on Saturday evenings under the moniker Somewhere in Time. On September 16, 2013, he launched a new weekly programme on Sirius XM Radio called Art Bell’s Dark Matter, which lasted six weeks and terminated on November 4, 2013. Bell established KNYE 95.1 FM in Pahrump, Nevada, and was the station’s first owner. During his time as host of Coast to Coast AM, his broadcast studio and transmitter were situated near his house in Pahrump, with the exception of June to December 2006, when he was in the Philippines. After having considerable difficulty getting a U.S. visa for his wife Airyn, he returned to the Philippines with his family on March 10, 2009.
