The announcement of his passing came just a day after Lowery revealed his plans to retire on September 30. He had been battling health issues in recent months, having suffered two strokes.
Lowery’s daughter, Erin Lowery, shared that her father’s condition deteriorated rapidly overnight, and he peacefully passed away in the hospital early Wednesday, surrounded by his family.
Elected as Arkansas Treasurer on November 8, 2022, Mark Lowery assumed office on January 10 of this year. His sudden departure has left his colleagues and staff devastated. Mark was an incredible leader and a humble public servant, and this was unexpected. It’s definitely going to take us time to process this. We ask that you keep Mark’s family in your thoughts and prayers during this time.”
Lowery faced health challenges when he experienced an ischemic stroke while in Maryland in March. Subsequently, he was hospitalized a second time after suffering another stroke in late June.

She remarked on the brevity of his term and the impact he made during his time in office. Lt. Governor Leslie Rutledge, who considered Lowery a dear friend, shared her memories of his warm smile and encouraging words.
Mark Lowery’s journey of public service began as Chief of Staff for then-Lieutenant Governor Mike Huckabee in the mid-1990s. He later embarked on a political career, serving in the Arkansas Legislature from 2012, where he completed five terms.
