In the Fox television series “Arrested Development,” Alia Shawkat played the character Maeby Funke. As Gertie Michaels in the horror-comedy movie “The Last Girls,” she is very well known.
She played Maeby Fünke in the Fox/Netflix television series Arrested Development from 2003 to 2006 and again from 2013 to the present. She also played Gertie Michaels in the 2015 horror comedy The Final Girls. Drunk History on Comedy Central has featured her in guest roles as Virginia Hall, Frances Cleveland, and Alexander Hamilton.
In the black comedy Search Party, which debuted on TBS on November 21, 2016, she now portrays Dory Stewart. Together with the Young Talent Award in 2005, she also received the TV Land Award in 2004.
Are Alia Shawkat & Michael Cera Still Friends?
Of course, a friendship is different from a complicated sexual relationship between distant cousins, but the performers still had to act out the strange emotions of their characters on-screen. Yet, it certainly helps if the actors have a good enough relationship off-screen to develop that relationship on-screen.
There are other comedy series performers who are close friends outside of work besides Cera and Shawkat. The fact that “Arrested Development” stars Jason Bateman and Will Arnett are friends in real life is probably a factor in the success of their hilariously sibling on-screen friendship.
