April Davis Husband
He is married to his wife Dana Davis. She is married to a Divorce Attorney, Franz Davis, which gives her a unique insight to know what’s going to last. April Davis was a Matchmaker for years within her own circle of friends and acquaintances; she just didn’t know that she was at the time. Whenever she met someone who was single, she would naturally start thinking of who she might know that would be a good fit for that person.
Husband accused of beating his wife to death had abused her before
There are two depictions of April Davis’ marriage to Dana Davis, her husband of more than 30 years and the suspect in her fatal beating. The first was shared over social media where the couple regularly and publicly spoke of their love.
The second is a closeted story of abuse, recounted by family members and cataloged in court documents. The 51-year-old mother of six was declared dead soon after San Diego police officers found her unconscious on the floor of a City Heights apartment on Saturday.
Her 55-year-old husband was also in the home on 38th Street at Cedar Street and was later jailed on suspicion of murder. Jeri Arcala-Tirona, the victim’s older sister, said April Davis, who no longer lived at the apartment, rushed to the address after her youngest child called her, distraught.
The 18-year-old daughter said her father was flushing the ashes of her dead grandmother down the toilet, the sister said. Soon after April Davis arrived, a fight broke out. The daughter was outside when she heard her mother’s screams, Arcala-Tirona said. The teen tried to get into the apartment, but the door was either locked or barricaded. She shouted for help, and someone nearby called 911 about 5:35 p.m., police and family said.
When officers got inside, they found Davis with severe blunt force injuries to the upper body.“She did not deserve this,” the sister said in a phone interview Sunday night. April Davis endured years of abuse at the hands of her husband, two of her sisters said.
Dana Davis was convicted at least twice of misdemeanor domestic violence crimes against his wife — once in November 1994 and again on August 2016, according to the San Diego City Attorney’s Office. After his most recent conviction, he was placed on probation for three years and ordered to stay away from his wife and youngest daughter. The order was changed later to allow contact with his child, despite objections from city officials, said Gerry Braun, a spokesman for the city attorney.
Family members said there were many more instances of domestic violence that April Davis never reported.“I think she felt like she had put too much love and care into their relationship to just give up,” said Kyong-Mi Arcala, one of April Davis’ sisters.
Davis regularly posted about her husband and her children on her Facebook page. One post from May was a video of the two rollerskating together, a hobby she was proud to say they had shared for more than 30 years, she wrote. Dana Davis commented that he was in “seventh heaven” when he was in a rink with her, and the only thing he loved more than his skates was his wife and children.
Then, around the time of her husband’s most recent domestic violence conviction, she moved out.“She was happy with her life,” Arcala-Tirona said. “I’d never heard her so happy.”Despite the separation, April Davis continued to support her husband. When he was hospitalized earlier this year, she took time off work to be with him.
That was the kind of woman she was, her sister said.“She was a really good-hearted woman,” Arcala-Tirona said. “She was the kind of person that would help anybody.”Relatives on Dana Davis’ side of the family could not be reached for comment Monday.
April Davis worked for more than a decade as a property tax collector with the county. Friends and co-workers reached out in the wake of her death to say what a hard-working and giving woman she was. Kyong-Mi Arcala said her sister was well-liked and made friends easily. She loved to roller skate, a hobby she passed down to her children.
But nothing, not her hobbies or her job, mattered more to April Davis than her children, Arcala-Tirona said.“She raised six beautiful children and they were everything to her,” Arcala-Tirona said. “Everything she did, she did for them.”
Other family members echoed those statements, saying Davis would be remembered for the love she had for and shared with her family. Family members created a GoFundMe account to help pay for funeral costs and to help support her family. If the San Diego County District Attorney chooses to file charges against Dana Davis, he will likely be arraigned Thursday in San Diego Superior Court.
