Annie Ilonzeh Biography

Annie Ilonzeh is an American actress. From 2010 to 2011, she played Maya Ward on the ABC daytime soap opera General Hospital.

In January 2011, Ilonzeh was announced as one of the “Angels” on the reboot of the 1970s television series Charlie’s Angels. The series, which premiered in September 2011, received mostly negative reviews and was canceled the day after the fourth episode. In March 2012, it was announced that Ilonzeh would be recurring on The CW series Arrow.

Later that year, she began appearing in a recurring role in the ABC Family drama series Switched at Birth. In 2013, she played a leading role in the Lifetime television film Killer Reality. Ilonzeh also guest-starred in the second season of CW’s Beauty & the Beast and had a recurring role on Lifetime comedy-drama Drop Dead Diva in 2013.

Later, she had a recurring role on Person of Interest and Empire. She later had a recurring role on shows such as Arrow, Drop Dead Diva, and Empire. In 2017, Ilonzeh played Kidada Jones in the biographical drama film All Eyez on Me and starred in the thriller ‘Til Death Do Us Part. She currently portrays Emily Foster in the NBC drama Chicago Fire.

Annie Ilonzeh Chicago Fire

When Annie Ilonzeh was searching for digs in Chicago, it wasn’t a scenic view or big kitchen that sold her on her South Loop residence. “They showed me the gym, and I was like, ‘Sold!’ There’s a half-court in there,” says the Chicago Fire actress and onetime college basketball standout. “It’s everything I need to unwind.”

The 35-year-old actress, who previously spent time here filming a recurring role on Empire, is a new addition to the One Chicago ensemble, playing paramedic Emily Foster. Ilonzeh isn’t new to the screen. She’s had roles in Person of Interest and Entourage, was one of the angels in the short-lived ABC reboot of Charlie’s Angels and recently starred with Jennifer Garner in the action flick Peppermint but nothing prepared her for the One Chicago community. “Everybody is so close.

I walked in on my first day, like, ‘OK, guys, I get it. Thanks for making this seem glowy and sparkly, a good bit.’ And then week two, week three, week four came, and it was like, ‘Oh, they really love each other,’” she says. “They love Chicago, they love the fans and they love Dick Wolf, and that’s refreshing because other shows aren’t like that. The business ain’t like that.”

From appearing on Switched at Birth as Lana Bracelet to playing Laurel Lance’s best friend, Joanna De La Vega, on Arrow, Ilonzeh has become a very recognizable face throughout the industry. But just in case that alone isn’t enough to convince you, she also nabbed major roles in shows like Drop Dead Diva, Person of Interest, and Graceland before it was canceled by the USA Network. Suffice to say, I think she’s more than up to taking on the Lyon dynasty and becoming a great addition to an already amazing cast.

Outside of the small screen, Ilonzeh has also been featured on the silver screen as well and can be found in movies such as Percy Jackson & the Olympians. The Lightning Thief and the popular romantic comedy He’s Just Not That Into You. (So basically anything with a really long title.) But television seems to be where this star truly shines and I, for one, can’t wait to see what kind of drama unfolds once she hits the Empire scene. Something tells me it’s going to be an unforgettable experience.

Annie Ilonzeh has an ink inscription on her right-hand pointer finger on the right hand, reading “READY. FIRE. AIM.” The more common version of this saying is “ready aim fire,” but Annie took to her Instagram to explain why she finds her arrangement of the words more meaningful:

“One of my mottos on repeat- Ready.Fire.Aim. Once you’ve properly gotten Ready, you’re prepared. Now go Fire. IF you miss, then go back and Aim. As opposed to Ready Aim Fire where we can get caught up in the Ready, Aim part that we sometimes never Fire. Kick that twisted sabotage shit to the curb.”

Elephant on her Wrist

Annie Ilonzeh has her right wrist decorated with a beautifully detailed elephant tattoo. It continues around the inside of her wrist with a background of swirls to give the inking a bracelet look. It’s actually a cover-up of an older writing tattoo which we can’t fully decipher but it seems to start with “Never.”

Elephants have a very special place in Annie’s heart. She described them as her spirit animal and as “an incredible symbol of strength power and peace”

Annie Ilonzeh has a tattoo on the side of her right hand which says “DILLIGAF,” an acronym for “Does It Look Like I Give A Fuck?” She says that the tattoo is “a little personal reminder.”
