Annette Carol Bening was born on May 29, 1958 in Topeka, Kansas to Shirley Katherine (née Ashley) and Arnett Grant Bening, both originally from Iowa. Annette is the youngest of her parents’ children. she has three older siblings. Although born in Topeka, Bening grew up for most of her childhood in Wichita, Kansas, where her family had moved in 1959. The family would later move to San Diego, California in 1965, after her father, insurance representative and sales training. consultant got a job there.
