Anna Chojnicka is a banana artist on Instagram, which she started in March 2020, when the lockdown was implemented for the first time.
She was so bored that she absent-mindedly picked up a banana on her kitchen table and started running her fork along the outside of the peel.
Anna decided to attempt a daily art challenge, and soon challenge change into her hobby, and she hasn’t stopped creating banana art ever since.
She does not use any ink or paint to draw on the banana peels. Instead, she implements a unique technique she calls “bruising” that allows her to change the color of a banana peel and create dimension using only the contrast between the bruised and the unbruised surface of the fruit.
Anna eats every banana she doodles on, so nothing ever goes to waste.
Her popular banana art ranges from familiar cartoons such as Homer Simpson to painstakingly rendered portraits of Greta Thunberg.
Anna also started online classes teaching others the delicate craft of banana sketches. Chojnicka recommends beginning with a relatively simple image with at most three shades.
