Ann Biderman is an American film and television writer and producer. She is best known for creating the NBC/TNT series “Southland” that ran from 2009-2013. She is also known for writing an episode of NYPD Blue through which she won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Writing a Drama Series.

One of her first roles was with the film adaptation of the 1992 novel, “Smilla’s Sense of Snow” which was released in 1997. She started garnering recognition after her work in the first season of the police drama series”Southland” from 2008-09.
The series focused on patrol officers and detectives in South Los Angeles. She wrote the pilot episodes, then served as the executive director of the show alongside John Wells and Christopher Chulack. She continued to serve as the executive producer and writer in the show’s second season.
NBC canceled Southland after 6 episodes of its first season were made. TNT network then picked up the show and completed its second season. They then renewed it for a third season but this time with a lower budget. Ann, subsequently, stepped down as executive producer but still remained as an executive consultant.
In 2013, she helped create the Showtime Television crime drama series “Ray Donovan. The series revolves around the titular character who is a crime cleaner or fixer who arranges bribes, payoffs, threats, and other illegal activities, to ensure the outcome desired by the client.
She worked as the showrunner for its first season but then stepped down after its second season. Over the course of her career, Ann has worked with such notable people as David Hollander, John Wells, Angela Amato Velez, and Dee Johnson. Through this, she has garnered expertise, recognition as well as several awards for her works in the entertainment industry.
