Animal Kingdom is a family crime show set in a surfing culture that is gritty. The series focuses on 17-year-old Joshua “J” Cody (Finn Cole), who, after his mother dies from a heroin overdose, moves in with his freewheeling family in their Southern California coastal area. The clan also comprises of Pope (Shawn Hatosy), the eldest and most dangerous of the Cody boys; Craig (Ben Robson), the strong and fearless middle son; and Deran (Jake Weary), the troubled, paranoid “Smurf” of the household, headed by boot-tough matriarch Janine “baby” Cody (Ellen Barkin) and her right-hand Baz (Scott Speedman), who manages the company and calls the shots. Nicky (Molly Gordon), J’s steady partner, and Catherine (Daniella Alonso), the de facto wife of Baz and the mother of their three-year-old daughter, Lena, are both popular.
It’s not long until Josh is attracted into the life of indulgence and luxury of the family, but he quickly learns that it’s all been supported by illegal activity. It comes with more risk and enthusiasm to reach the family than he could be able to manage.
The Codys are back, and as TNT’s hit Animal Kingdom comes back for its second season, the bonds that link them are about to be extended to the max. The Cody clan is back to their old ways and in the middle of a nice, high-adrenaline heist, as the second season opens. But when things don’t go as expected, when some participants support freedom from Smurf, the family relationships get more fragmented than ever before. An external danger from Smurf’s history that has come back to haunt her is the adding of fuel to the flames.
