Angel Locsin (born Angelica Colmenares; April 23, 1985) is a Filipina actress, commercial model, film producer, and fashion designer who has appeared on television and in films. It was via her television appearances as Alwina in the fantasy-themed television series Mulawin in 2004 and as the superheroine Darna in a television version of the Mars Ravelo comics that she gained national attention. Locsin worked as a contract artist for GMA Network from early 2007 until she was hired by its competitor, ABS-CBN, to be their spokesperson. A few years later, she appeared as Lyka in the television series Lobo, which garnered her a nomination for an International Emmy Award for best performance. In the following years, she appeared in the blockbuster blockbusters In The Name Of Love and One More Try, for which she received critical praise for her performances in both films. The two films won Locsin the Star Award for Movies for Movie Actress of the Year as well as the Box-Office Entertainment Award for Film Actress of the Year, making her the first actress to win both prizes in the same year for the first time in her career. For her portrayal in the film One More Try, she received the FAMAS Award and the Film Academy of the Philippines Award for best actress in the same year.
