Andrew Warren Interview
Teen Vogue: Who is the quintessential JustDrew girl?
Andrew Warren: I would say the quintessential JustDrew girl is relatable without lacking style. She is confident and effortlessly chic. You will always notice a JustDrew girl. I am inspired by my closest girlfriends. I’ve always admired Andy Warhol and how he used his muses to inspire him. I would like to be sort of like the Andy Warhol of the fashion industry; inspired by my muses.
TV: What can we expect out of your SS17 collection?
AW: Lots of blush tones, white, and some pops of colors, like yellow and blue. I also created a lot of in house designed prints including a whimsical butterfly print that I’m really in love with. This season I will also be featuring lots of flowy, lengthy skirts and dresses, a few matching dresses and duster sets, and chic blazers. I don’t want to give too much away but I’m very excited for this season.
TV: What inspired SS17?
AW: My collection was inspired by an enchanted forest. International Garden created a really cool flower wall for my presentation this spring.
TV: Who’s your favorite celebrity that you’ve dressed so far?
AW: Everyone who wears my clothes feels like a celebrity [like Sofia Richie]. I want everyone wearing my line to feel like an “it” girl.
TV: Your grandfather is considered a legend in the industry. What did he teach you about the industry?
AW: He, unfortunately, passed before I ever got to meet him. But I’ve been told by people that knew him well that they see a lot of him in me.
TV: Any career advice you can give to other young designers in the industry?
AW: Stay focused. The fashion industry is very cut throat and competitive. It’s easy to feel defeated so I would say to just keep working hard, don’t get distracted and eventually you’ll get where you’re going. Nothing happens overnight.
TV: So you mentioned that you’re going to be showing for NYFW. Can you tell me a little bit about what we can expect?
A: Yes! I’m having a presentation this Thursday, September 8th at the Metropolitan Pavilion.
TV: Congratulations! Is this your first fashion week showing?
AW: No, I did a big show last fall at Gotham Hall.
