Pierre Cardin net worth: Pierre Cardin is an Italian-born French fashion designer who has a net worth of $800 million. Pierre Cardin was born on 7 July 1922, at San Biagio di Callalta near Treviso. At age 17 he went to Vichy to become a tailor at a men’s shop. He joined the Parisian fashion house of Paquin and designed the costumes for Jean Cocteau’s film Beauty and the Beast in 1945. He introduced the “bubble dress” in 1954. He created the first ready-to-wear collection in 1959 for women ever presented by a top designer and in 1960 introduced the first designer ready-to-wear collection for men. Throughout the 1960s Cardin continues to design clothes for both men and women that became increasingly fanciful and replete with bright colors. By the 1970s, he was regarded among one of the top fashion designers in the world and was awarded many times for his designs. In 1974, Cardin was awarded the EUR Award. In 1977, he received the Golden Thimble of French Haute-Couture Award and won the award two more times. In 1977 that he purchased the Maxim’s chain of stores and turned them into a unique line of boutiques to sell his designs. In 1980, he celebrated 30 years in the industry at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Cardin expanded into other markets that included a contract with American Motors Corporation following the success of the Aldo Gucci designed Hornet Sportabout station wagon interiors. In 1981 he bought Maxim’s restaurants and soon opened branches in New York, London, and Beijing. A chain of Maxim’s Hotels are now included in the assets. He has also licensed a wide range of food products under that name.
