Ana Gasteyer On Snl

Ana Gasteyer joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 1996. Among her most popular characters were high school music teacher Bobbie Mohan-Culp, National Public Radio Delicious Dish host Margaret Jo McCullen, Lilith Fair feminist singer Cinder Calhoun, and her impressions of Martha Stewart and Celine Dion.

Gasteyer and Chris Parnell auditioned to succeed Colin Quinn as co-anchors of the news parody segment Weekend Update, but the positions ultimately went to Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon.

Gasteyer impersonated many celebrities and public figures over the cause of her work at SNL including Celine Dion, Hillary Clinton, Katherine Harris, Joy Behar, Joan Rivers, Sally Jesse Raphael, Elizabeth Dole, Kathy Griffin among others. Gasteyer left SNL in 2002 after six seasons. Subsequently, she appeared in various television programs, films and stage productions.

Ana Gasteyer Kathryn Hahn

Ana Gasteyer and Kathryn Hahn look strikingly similar even though the two are not related, they’re just look-alikes. Besides looking similar, both these women graduated from Northwestern University, both are incredibly funny, both have done extensive film and TV work, and both have even appeared on Broadway (Hahn in “Boeing Boeing”, Gasteyer in “Wicked”)!

It’s a bit easier if you watch SNL, where Gasteyer was a cast member for six years, famous for her celebrity impersonations (Hilary Clinton, Céline Dion, Martha Stewart).

For the rest of us, we’re left scratching our heads over which one was in 115 episodes of Crossing Jordan (Hahn), which one played Lindsay Lohan’s mom in Mean Girls (Gasteyer), which one guest starred on both Parks And Recreation and Girls (Hahn again), and which one currently stars on Suburgatory (Gasteyer again).

In early 2015, Saturday Night Live celebrated its 40th anniversary with 3 hours of nostalgic sketches done by cast members, old and new. Will Ferrell and Ana Gasteyer returned as Marty Culp and his wife Bobbi Mohan-Culp, the two cringeworthy music teachers who sing operatic medleys of Top 40 hits.

DJ Snake and Lil Jon’s “Turn Down For What” – and our #1 track of 2014 – makes an appearance in the Culp’s routine, along with “Uptown Funk,” and “All About That Bass.”
