Abstract
This research is aimed at bringing to the fore value engineering by ascertaining its levels of application and enumerating its roles and challenges facing it in the Nigerian construction industry. Null hypothesis was formulated and tested with t-test of independent means and research question was posed. Research structured and open questionnaire and oral interview through personal contact were the instruments for data collection with a sample size of 25 and sample random sampling technique used. It was concluded that value engineering analysis is not mostly applicable at the concept stage of contract it inadequately applied in the Nigeria construction industry the 40 hour workshop remains the most widely accepted formal approval to value engineering inadequate implementation of value engineering proposals in the Nigerian construction industry and the roles of value engineering include cost efficiency, functionality, quality assurance, clear from on project objective and achieving good value for money. It is recommended that all key stakeholders take note of these findings.
