Amit Kumar is a playback vocalist, actor, director, and music director in Indian films. He is the son of Kishore Kumar, an Indian singer and actor, and Ruma Guha Thakurta, a Bengali singer and actress. Amit, like his father, has always enjoyed singing and has performed at Durga Pooja events in Kolkata since he was a kid. People were demanding more songs when he was singing on stage at a Durga Pooja event organised by Bengali actor Uttam Kumar, and this information reached his mother. Kishore Kumar was told by her that his kid was singing “filmy” tunes. When Kishore Kumar learned about this, he decided to bring him to Bombay.
Kishore Kumar had previously cast Amit in two films that he produced himself, Door Gagan Ki Chhaon Mein and Door Ka Raahi, in which he played his son (with Amit as a teenager). Kishore Kumar sang “Aa chalke tujhe, mein leke chaloon” to his eleven-year-old son Amit Kumar in the video for “Aa chalke tujhe, mein leke chaloon.” He has sung many Bollywood and regional film songs since the 1970s, and was more actively singing in Indian films from 1970 to 1994, when he withdrew from playback singing due to a lack of good quality music being composed and disappointment with Kishore Kumar clones like Kumar Sanu, who had a nasal touch, and Abhijeet, who did not sing from the stomach as per Amit Kumar. He has also performed in Bengali, Bhojpuri, Oriya, Assamese, Marathi, and Konkani, in addition to Hindi.
