Alyssa was born in 1989 in Edmonds, Washington to Tlingit, Scottish, Norwegian, and Czech parents of mixed ethnicity. She grew up in Seattle, where she participated in sports and groups related to her Alaska Native heritage, and frequently visited her family in Southeast Alaska. In 2012, she graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Studies of Race and Ethnicity. This 2011 Udall Fellow produced an honors thesis on rural economic development in Southeast Alaska, and understands how her research on economic development in her own region can be applied to other parts of Indian Territory. She believes that a good education has been the key to her success and opportunities.

After graduating, Alyssa began her career competing in pageants. Meanwhile, she gained confidence working in sales and marketing roles in the technology industry, most notably at Microsoft. She was named to the young board of directors of the Sealaska Corporation in 2014. Alyssa’s beauty pageant career ended when she was named Miss Alaska USA 2017, and due to her efforts, she was named one of the top 10 national finalists in the Miss Alaska competition. USA 2017, wearing a homemade Tlingit dress that went viral on Facebook.
She was named a cultural ambassador for the Sealaska Heritage Institute during this time, and traveled throughout Alaska and Indian Territory in the lower 48 states and Canada. She acquired many public speaking skills, which she still uses, and even consults to educate others through her communications agency, Alyssa London LLC. Her year as Miss Alaska USA was divided into three parts: sharing the vibrancy of native culture, inspiring children to pursue higher levels of education, and inspiring women to pursue business and entrepreneurial careers.
She remains passionate about empowering women, motivating youth, and preserving native customs and values, all of which are important to her. Alyssa is now working on the Culture Stories digital internet and television series with Alaska Airlines, Alaska Humanities Forum and First Nations Television. Alyssa also consults with and educates CEOs on how to improve her communication skills.
