Alyssa Edwards is the moniker of Justin Dwayne Lee Johnson, an American drag performer, choreographer, entrepreneur, comedian and dancer hailing from Texas. Johnson was Miss Gay America 2010 but had his title stripped away. She rose to national prominence on the fifth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, becoming a fan favorite during and after his time on the show. The drag queen owns and runs an award-winning studio, Beyond Belief Dance Company in Texas. Johnson and his dance studio are the centerpieces of a docuseries, Dancing Queen, produced by RuPaul and World of Wonder that premiered on October 5, 2018 on Netflix.

Beyond Belief Dance Studio

The dancer runs a dance studio for kids in Mesquite, Texas called Beyond Belief Dance Studio. Additionally, the studio, is the focus of the new docu-series Dancing Queen. He runs the studio as Justin Johnson, though the Edwards persona shows up there as well. The studio is wildly successful, with the dancers from the studio appearing on America’s Got Talent in 2008.

Due to the success of her dancing studio, Now, the media streaming house Netflix released a docuseries about the studio that premiered on  October 5, 2018. “This is a docuseries, so this isn’t a produced reality. What you see is what was really going on.” She says in an interview. She stars in the show as the dancer, choreo and mentor.
