Alter Bridge is an Orlando, Florida-based American rock band that formed in 2004. Myles Kennedy (lead singer and guitarist), Mark Tremonti (lead guitarist and backing vocals), Brian Marshall (bassist), and Scott Phillips (drummer) make up the band. There have been no line-up changes since the band’s inception. The band performs a melodic type of post-grunge inspired heavy metal music that has become increasingly progressive and experimental over the years, and is known for their renowned live performances. Former Creed members Tremonti, Marshall, and Phillips started collaborating with Kennedy, previously of The Mayfield Four, after the band disbanded in 2004. Alter Bridge’s first album, One Day Remains, was released the same year, and was named after a bridge that formerly stood on Alter Road near Tremonti’s old home in Detroit, Michigan. Despite mixed reviews, One Day Remains was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The band’s second album, Blackbird, was released to more favourable reviews in 2007, after the popularity of the song “
Rise Today,” and the band embarked on a successful global tour in support. In 2009, Tremonti, Marshall, and Phillips rejoined with Creed for a tour and album, while Kennedy recorded two songs for guitarist Slash’s self-titled solo album in 2010, before touring with his band. Alter Bridge continued to create songs throughout this period, and in 2010, the band released their third album, AB III, to critical acclaim, with the single “Isolation” being the band’s most popular single to date. From 2010 to 2012, the band went on a global tour in support of AB III. Following the completion of the AB III tour, the members of Alter Bridge concentrated on solo and session work, another Creed tour, Kennedy’s ongoing cooperation with Slash, and various side projects during 2012. Alter Bridge has reassembled.
