As the offspring of Malayali and Punjabi immigrant parents from Malaysia and India, Vaid-Menon grew up in College Station, Texas. Growing up they were bullied for their race and gender identity. They thought they couldn’t come out on their own terms and they didn’t know they were different as a clearly gender non-conforming individual until they were humiliated for it and told who they were.
Responding to this abuse, they established their art practice at a young age. “The art of creating gave me permission to live.
