According to an obituary posted on Facebook, Allyn W. Gibson, the proprietor of Gibson’s Bakery in Oberlin, died on Saturday. Gibson, a former resident of Oberlin, died at Capri Gardens Rehab Center in Lewis Center, Ohio, at the age of 93.
Gibson, 93, died during “baker’s hours,” according to the statement, which claimed he died “with a sad heart.”
“Mr Gibson was one of the most sincere and compassionate people we’ve ever met. He will be sorely missed, according to the statement.
Gibson’s has been a downtown Oberlin fixture since 1885 and is a fifth-generation family-owned business.
On Sunday afternoon, condolences began flooding in for Gibson, who was remembered for his generosity, proclivity for telling stories, and the ideals he taught those around him.
Gibson’s death comes after his son, Gibson’s co-owner David Gibson, died in 2019 at the age of 65.
