Why Did Joe Root Resign?
Joe Root had announced his resignation as England’s Test captain on April 15, 2022, after five years in the role, in which the captain has overseen more games, more wins, and more defeats than any of his predecessors.
The captain’s decision comes after the 0-1 Test series defeat to West Indies last month and further the 0-4 Ashes loss to Australia in the winter. Joe ended his five-year spell in an increasingly challenging role because of the team’s long run of series defeats.
The 31-year-old Joe stated that it had been the most challenging decision he has had to make in his career; he took over as captain from Alastair Cook in 2017.
