Learn About ‘What about me’ TikTok Song: Lyrics Meaning And Origin
‘What About Me,’ the most successful song by Sydney-based Moving Pictures to date, is a power ballad from 1982 that tells the story of major businesses failing to understand the value of the regular citizen.
Beginning with two alternative scenarios, ‘Well, a little boy is waiting at the corner shop’ and a ‘pretty girl’ serving at the corner shop,’ demonstrating that, despite having a small source of income, the tie is still struggling to make ends meet in a modern capitalist society; ‘I have enough, now I want my share’.
Interestingly, ‘What About Me’ was a financial success both in Australia and worldwide, debuting at #1 on the ARIA precursor Kent Music Chart.
Moreover, it peaked at #29 on the Billboard Hot 11 in the United States. Furthermore, it spent so much time on the Hot 100 that it was included in the Top 100 Pop Singles list in 1983.

‘What About Me’ Song Origin
The song ‘What About Me‘ was first written by frost when he was dealing with autistic youngsters in his day job. He’d gone out for lunch in Asquith, a Sydney suburb, and observed a small boy waiting at the desk who had gone unnoticed. He was affected enough by the image to create a song about it.
Frost and Smith playing with the melody on the studio piano during a break in recording may never be captured if their debut album’s producer Charles Fisher hadn’t noticed. Moving Pictures should record the tune, Fisher said. In January 1982, the song was released as a single.
Later, Shannon Noll, the runner-up on Australian Idol, recorded the song in 2004, and it immediately rose to the top of Australia’s ARIA Single Chart. In Ireland, where it debuted and peaked at number two in October 2004, Noll’s version was likewise a surprise smash.
Furthermore, in January 2018, ‘What About Me‘ was named number 37 on Triple M’s ‘Ozzfest 100,’ a list of the most Australian songs of all time.
