He served in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant and then dropped out law school before teaching tennis as a profession. He serves as the tennis director at Puerto Rico’s Dorado Beach Hotel. Bollettieri moved to Florida to serve as in instructor for the Colony Beach and tennis Resort. He opened up the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Florida in 1978.
