He was named Alexis Kerry Ohanian at birth and was born in Brooklyn on April 24, 1983. His parents, Chris and Anke Ohanian raised him in the United States. He is of mixed ancestry, his father being Armenian and his mother German. Alexis expressed his admiration for the bond and relationship his parents shared and how it influenced him throughout his development and the evolution of his life.
Although her parents didn’t have much while they were growing up, they tried to create memorable moments with what little they had and it taught her to cherish the little things in life. He attended Howard High School for his high school education. After graduating, he continued his studies at the University of Virginia where he received his degrees in history and business in 2005.
After graduation, Alexis Ohanian and his friend (Steve Huffman) came up with a business idea which they pitched to YCombinator. The idea was not well received and the duo were advised to come up with a different business idea that they could fund. After a long period of research, they came up with the idea and the company that today is known as Reddit.com.
Their business idea was funded and turned into reality in 2005. Reddit was then acquired in 2006 for between $10 million and $20 million by Condé Nast. Alexis, for his part, was a member of the board of directors and he continued to work for the company as a supervisor.

Alexis Ohanian met Serena Williams in May 2015 at the popular Rome Cavalieri Hotel. He was not a tennis fan and did not know much about the sport. The two men started talking, went on dates and fell in love. They dated secretly for over a year before announcing their engagement in 2016.
The couple had their first child (Alexis OlympiaOhanian) together in September 2017. Serena had some health complications after giving birth and Alexis took 16 weeks of paid paternity leave to join her family. The duo finally got married in November 2017.

Her mother, Anke Prigge is German and she met her husband (Chris) in Ireland where they spent two weeks together and fell in love despite the obvious language barrier. Anke left her home and her family, moved to America with him and married him. She was close to being certified as a pharmacist in Germany, but had to start over in the United States. She first held various jobs in the catering industry before finally opting for a night pharmacy technician in order to have time for her children during the day.

Shortly after Alexis’ graduation, her father called to inform her that her mother had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. She died in March 2008. Alexis later married on her mother’s date of birth, to honor her memory. The couple chose the date to ensure their mother was well represented at their wedding.
