Early Life and Career Beginnings

He trained in musical theatre for some time, and during his teens realized that he wanted to pursue an acting career. In 2005, he began successfully auditioning for professional acting projects, with his first couple being guest roles in “The Dead Zone” and “Psych”.

Afterwards he appeared in a string of television movies including “Devil’s Diary”, and “To Be Fat Like Me” which is a Lifetime Original Movie starring Kaley Cuoco, telling the story of an athletic girl who realizes that she has to find another way to complete her education following a knee injury. He then appeared in his feature film debut in “Kickin’ It Old School” which starred Jammie Kennedy and Maria Menounos, about a break-dancer who goes into a coma for two decades, waking up in 2006 to try and restore his now broken-up break-dancing team.

Continued Acting Work

Following his film debut, he worked on several films that were released direct-to-video; some of these projects include “Lost After Dark” and “Lost Boys: The Tribe”. He also took a few independent projects including short films. On television, his guest work continued in series such as “The Troop”, “Motive”, “Human Target”, and “Bates Motel”.

In 2015 he was cast in a recurring role in the television series “The Returned” as Hunter Gibbs.

The show is an adaptation of the French series “Les Revenants”, which was broadcast internationally thanks to its popularity.

The show tells the story of a small town which experiences numerous people who have been long dead, reappearing, and received generally favorable reviews during its short run, but was eventually canceled because of lack of interest from the general viewing public, and being overshadowed by its much more critically acclaimed source material. The project was still successful in elevated Alexander’s career, and led him to more opportunities.

Rise to Fame – Arrow

Following his work in “The Returned”, Alexander was cast in a recurring role in the CW series “Arrow” in which he played the role of Lonnie Machin also known as Anarky.

The show was a television adaptation of the DC character Green Arrow, starring Stephen Amell as the titular hero. The show tackles his origin story leading up to his return to his former home as he tries to balance his life as a vigilante and his public appearances. The show received generally positive reviews during its run, and spawned various DC-related spin-offs, all connected to a single universe known as the Arrowverse, although the television DC shows have no relation to the characters portrayed in DC films.

While working on “Arrow”, Calvert also had other projects, including the film “Lost After Dark” which was released straight to video. He also had a two-episode role in the television series “Scream”, which is based on the popular film series of the same name – the series airs on MTV and its first two seasons were a part of a single storyline, while a new show was later created with a different cast and story, continuing as its third season.

Supernatural

In 2017, Calvert gained his biggest role so far as he first appeared as a guest in the 12th season of the television series “Supernatural”, then became a series regular in the 13th season, playing the role of the Nephilim Jack Kline.

The show tells the story of two brothers who have been hunting supernatural threats and monsters their entire lives. The series began airing in 2005 and has been one of the longest-running and most popular shows to come out from the line of CW. While it was initially set to complete its series run in five seasons, it was expanded due to strong fan demand and consistent ratings.

After his character’s death, Alexander briefly played the character Belphegor who took over Jack’s body before eventually returning as a resurrected Jack Kline. He is set to be one of the pivotal parts of the series finale, as “Supernatural” announced it would be ending with its 15th season.

However, the show has been on hiatus since early-2020, following the rise of the coronavirus epidemic which has led to delays in various industries, with many television shows suspending production.
