Alex Reuben McEwan was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of killing Korean student Eunji Ban while walking to work in Brisbane in November 2013.

Ms. Ban was battered to death in Wickham Park in the early hours of November 24, 2005, until she was unrecognizable.
McEwan has pleaded guilty to Ms. Ban’s manslaughter but not her murder.
The prosecution rejected the plea, claiming he planned to murder the Korean student.
According to McEwan’s lawyer, John Allen QC, the client, who was 19 at his detention, suffers from schizophrenia and should be judged not guilty of murder due to diminished responsibility.
