Apple, then 25, was one of four contestants who survived 40 days on a remote island in Fiji — often with very little food or water — on the MTV reality show “Stranded with a Million Dollars.”
On the “Stranded” show, 10 contestants were placed on the island with only one set of clothes and a million dollars, which they could use to buy survival items such as food, fishing gear, and tents — each costing tens of thousands of dollars apiece.
Apple started losing weight when he got very sick on the island, with diarrhea and vomiting.
Because Apple and fellow contestants Natalie “Makani” Paul, Cody Dunlap, and Gina Lam were the only four to last 40 days on the island without having to leave, they will split the nearly $500,000 leftover from the original million dollars. Apple won more than $124,000.
