Al Lawson

Al Lawson is an American politician who is the U.S. Representative. Lawson was appointed to the Committee on Small Business and the Committee on Agriculture at the beginning of the 115th Congress.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). Lawson also earned his Master of Public Administration from Florida State University. After briefly playing for the Indiana Pacers and Atlanta Hawks, he worked as an assistant basketball coach at Florida State University.

From 1982 to 2000, he was a member of the  Florida House of Representatives. He served in Florida Legislature for 28 years. From 2000 to 2021, Lawson was a member of the Florida Senate. He was elected to Democratic Leader and eventually rose to the rank “Dean of The Senate” to his election to the U.S. House of Representatives.
