Akers Family Extreme Makeover Where Are They Now?

Akers family Extreme Makeover now resides in Ohio, but in a different residence than featured on the show. Greg and Ginger divorced and their kids are all grown up.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is an American reality series that aired from February 15, 2004, to January 13, 2012, on ABC.

It is a spin-off of Extreme Makeover featuring families that have experienced hardships in having their homes reconstructed to better suit their needs.

Ty Pennington hosted the original ABC run, and actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson hosted the HGTV season. Brady Connell and George Verschoor served as the executive producers of the series.

Even though the show wrapped up on January 13, 2012, its nine-season run cemented it as one of the iconic makeover production of all time.

Host Pennington and his team designed and created dream homes for some of the most deserving families during the series’ nine-year run.

On June 5, 2023, it was announced that EMHE would be revived and return to ABC. The revival is expected to premiere during the 2023-24 television season.

Currently, you can stream EMHE seasons two through nine on Hulu.

Akers Family Extreme Makeover Where Are They Now?

Akers Family from Extreme Makeover has now moved out of the house that was featured in the show in 2008. Greg and Ginger Akers divorced a few years after.

The family was featured in EMHE Season 6, Episode 2, which aired on October 5, 2008. At the time, they resided in the 7800 block of Manor Drive, which was reconstructed in the show.

The Southwest Ohio community came together to build the West Chester Township family a handicap-accessible home for its two daughters, Brooke and Faith, who have Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).

In addition to the girl’s condition, Aker’s son, Christian Akers (then 10 years old) suffers from Crohn’s disease.

The house was designed to help the parents take better care of their kids and let their daughters move from room to room on their own.

In 2009, the family joined the festivities of building another family home in Beavercreek. There they expressed how the novelty of being on the show still hadn’t worn off.

Greg and Ginger were high school sweethearts and parents of two daughters and a son. The pair married on April 4, 1997.

After nearly 13 years of marriage, Ginger filed for divorce on March 5, 2010, and on April 14, she filed for a protection order against her husband.

After the divorce, she married a man named Gary W. Hollon. According to the records, the couple lives at 7973 Edgewater Dr, Middletown, Ohio.

Ginger is happily married to former firefighter Gary W. Hollon. He became a firefighter alongside his father in February 1986 for the Franklin Township Fire Department.

He later moved to Madison Township, spending an additional 30 years.

In June 2022, the Madison Township Trustee Meeting honored him for his retirement from the Fire Department. He served for 36 years as a firefighter in the State of Ohio.

“My amazing husband held every position available during his 36 years on the Fire Department…Firefighter, Lieutenant, Captian, Chief,” a proud wife wrote on her Facebook post.

She now goes by the name Ginger L Hollon. She regularly shares loving pictures of her man, kids, and grandkids on her Facebook account.

Brooke Akers is now 23 years old. Her big brother, Christian, is 25, and her younger sister, Faith, is 19.

According to her Facebook bio, she lives in Cincinnati with her loving husband, Cameron Rush, and their son, Brandon. She has described herself as a digital creator.

Akers gave birth to her son on September 15, 2022. “I can’t believe you’re half a year old son, please stop growing so fast,” a proud momma wrote on Facebook in March 2023.

She also shared a little health update about her kid and wrote, “He is the strongest little boy that I know and is absolutely thriving despite the little hiccups he has dealt with health-wise.”

Faith Akers is the President of Madison Outlaws

The youngest member of the Akers family, Faith, is the President of Madison Outlaws 4-H Club. She is an avid animal lover and the Butler County Small Animal Queen.

Moreover, she is an ambassador at Knights of the Inferno International firefighter MC and a retail sales associate at PUMA.

Previously, she worked at Kroger (2020-2021) and Kings Island (2019-2021). Akers has been in a romantic relationship with Mykel Cross since June 2022.

Growing up, she attended Lakota East High School. Akers currently studies at Miami University.

Where Are The Akers Family From?

The Akers family is from West Chester Township. It is one of the thirteen townships of Butler County, Ohio, US, located in the southeastern corner of the country.

Thousand of area volunteers rallied to help build the family a new ranch-style home on Manor Drive in July 2008. The two girls suffer from SMA, a degenerative disease that makes mobility difficult.

The Extreme Makeover: Home Edition team built the family one-story, ADA-compliant home specifically designed for the Akers’ children.

While the reconstruction process was going on, the Akers family was sent for an exciting vacation in San Francisco.

The Southwest Ohio community had been so supportive of the family that they even launched a fundraising rally led by Beth Chapman, Brooke’s former first-grade teacher.

The community raised over $50,000. Additionally, CVS Pharmacy stepped up to pay off the remainder of the family’s mortgage, meaning when the Akers return, the home is free and clear.

However, after Greg and his wife divorced, the family members moved to different locations around Ohio.

Greg, 56, is currently listed at 7869 Manor Dr, West Chester, Ohio. His daughters, Brooke and Faith, live in Cincinnati. They often meet at family gatherings.

Does Extreme Makeover Home Edition Really Take A Week?

Yes, Extreme Makeover Home Edition really takes a week. The show follows the reconstruction of homes for deserving families by a team of designers and contractors.

The remodeling process was completed within a week, but the show generally featured time-lapse footage to compress their work into a shorter time.

Well, it is technically possible to build a house in just a week, but it would require a considerable amount of resources, labor, and planning.

The show’s renovation process was heavily choreographed and involved a significant amount of pre-planning and pre-fabrication.

Kim Lewis, who worked behind the scenes on EMHE for six years, talked about the makeover process with House Beautiful in March 2023.

“People never really believed that the homes were actually built in seven days because that’s what we said on the show. But that was not true. They were actually built in five days,” she said.

She further said they had a hotel room but never left the site once the house started getting built.

Six to eight weeks of preparation time were dedicated to each home, during which everything for the house is planned, corralled, and ordered for the installation.

While EMHE was a shining light in the reality television world, it had its fair share of scandals and breakdowns. From shady tax prices to dishonest contestants, there was more than what meets the eye.

But did the featured families contribute? No, they didn’t. And though the house was provided free of charge to the families, it certainly came at a cost in other ways.

Many of these families were given giant mansions, leading to higher taxes, upkeep, and utility bills. Many of the EMHE homeowners experienced foreclosure.

In 2005, the Harvey family was given a huge 4,289 sq. ft. house, but the bank auctioned it off six years later.

The pattern became frequent with many former families of the show, who took mortgages out on their new homes to pay off old bills or launch new ventures.
