Recently, allegations about Gold Coast Suns player Brandon Ellis being involved in a drug case are circulating on social media, but it has been shown to be false gossip.
Brandon Ellis is an Australian footballer who now represents the Gold Coast Suns in the Australian Football League (AFL). Previously, he played 176 games with Richmond over eight seasons, including premierships in 2017 and 2019.
Some of his supporters have received the awful news that he has been charged with drug-related actions. However, that is not the case. Instead, in 2020, a Sierra Vista man with the same name as “Brandon Ellis” was arrested for various narcotics charges.
Brandon Ellis Drug Charges In Detail
The Sierra Vista Police Department arrested a Sierra Vista man for multiple drug charges in 2020. SVPD Community Response Team detectives launched the investigation into 40-year-old Sierra Vista resident Brandon Ellis after receiving several reports of possible drug activity at his apartment in the 90 block of Kings Way.
Numerous residents reported that people would frequently come to Ellis’s apartment, which prompted detectives to conduct surveillance on several occasions.
Surveillance confirmed what appeared to be typical activity related to the sale of drugs. This, in addition to other information gathered in the investigation, provided detectives with probable cause to obtain a search warrant for Ellis’s apartment and vehicles. During the search, detectives found more than 500 Oxycodone pills with a street value of about $15,000, 88.77 grams of cocaine with a street value of $2,700, more than $30,000 in cash, and a handgun.
Was Brandon Ellis Arrested Again in 2022?
Brandon Ellis, a Sierra Vista resident, is still being held in the Cochise County prison on a no-bond order until three trials in 2022. Ellis was arrested and later charged with five crimes by a Cochise County grand jury, including Class 2 felonies for cocaine and Oxycodone possession, as well as two weapons misconduct counts involving a 9mm pistol discovered in his apartment.
Bail was imposed at $50,000 cash-only at first, but after the court changed the order to $50,000 cash, Ellis was able to arrange for his pretrial release. Then, in July 2021, Ellis was charged in connection with the traffic stop in July 2020.
According to the indictment, Ellis had two prior DUI convictions within the last seven years, making the two accusations felonies.
Despite the new charge, Ellis was released from detention. Following a domestic violence incident, he was re-arrested on October 10. Ellis was ordered detained without bond by a justice of the peace until a higher court judge could hold a hearing on his bail eligibility.
Following that, during a bail eligibility hearing on October 15, the prosecutor argued to keep the no-bail order in place. The judge reaffirmed a May 2022 trial on the cocaine and weapons case, followed by an August 2022 trial on the DUI charges.
Is Brandon Ellis Still In Jail?
Ellis was charged with two counts each of possession of narcotic drugs, possession of narcotic drugs for sale, misconduct with a weapon, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held on a $50,000 bond.
In 2022, he is being held in the Cochise County prison on a no-bond order until three trials in 2022.
