Even though Afghanistan has a lot to offer especially to the brave tourists, it’s an extremely dangerous country to visit due to it being a war zone. Terrorism is a huge problem with the government forces fighting against Taliban insurgents.
Travel to Kabul is strongly advised against due to it being a lethal war zone. Despite the turmoil in Afghanistan, the country manages to pull in a reasonable number of tourists annually. On average, about 20,000 tourists visit the country.
Tourists should avoid trying to preach to or convert Muslims to other faiths, it is highly forbidden and regarded as a crime. Use and possession of narcotics, alcohol and pork products is a violation of the Afghan laws and orders. Homosexuality is also illegal in the country.

Afghanistan Tourist Visa Eligibility &
Requirements
- A tourist visa is issued for foreign nationals who are interested to visit Afghanistan individually or with a group for the purpose of visiting and tourism.
- The tourist visa is issued by the Afghan Missions abroad and the validity of this type of visa is for 90 days and the period of stay would be for thirty (30) days, which can be extended.
- Visiting friends or relatives in the country requires you to have a letter of invitation from the person you are visiting in Afghanistan. This letter should include a valid means of identification and the valid home address of your host.
- The receipt of a paid visa application fee is required.
- For non-South Africans, a copy of your South African stay permit should be presented at the embassy during the visa application process.
- Minors are expected to be in possession of the original copy of their birth certificate.
- Proof of Yellow Fever visa vaccination is required.
- A proof of incentive to return to your home country is also required.
- Tourists are not allowed to take up either paid or unpaid employment in the country.
- You are also not allowed to study in any of the country’s institutions of learning.

Requirements
- Afghanistan’s work visa is issued to Somalians with the intention to work as an employee in Afganistan.
- Afghanistan working visa processing fee for single entry is $100 USD;
- Extension for one (1) year is $50 USD per month or payable in local currency and applicable through the ministry of Interior
- Extension of working visa is permitted based on the request of the inviting department.
- The duration of stay in Afghanistan for these visas (per visit) is capped to 30 days for a 3 months single entry.
- The passport used in the visa application must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of departure from Afghanistan.
- Two (2) passport-size photographs (2×2 inches) are required.
- Proof of accommodation for the duration of your stay in Afghanistan must be provided.
- Proof of payment of visa application fee should be submitted.
- Somalians applying for an Afghan work visa should ensure they have a confirmed job offer from a company or organization based in Afghanistan.
- Educational or work experience is required from foreign citizens intending to work in Afghanistan.
- You must be below the age of retirement (65 years) to apply for an Afghan work visa.
- An introduction letter from your employer in Afghanistan must be submitted. This letter must contain your passport information, the purpose of travel and the duration of your stay in Afghanistan.
- You must also obtain a confirmation letter from your employer by the Consular Affairs Directorate-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
Afghanistan Business Visa Eligibility &
Requirements
- Afghanistan business visa is issued to foreign nationals who intend to travel to Afghanistan for business purposes.
- The application form must be accurately completed as incomplete application forms may delay the processing of your visa application or lead to outright denial.
- You are required to send 2 recent passport-size photographs (2×2 inches) with your completed visa application form.
- Your Somalia passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Afghanistan.
- You should submit an invitation letter from a partner company in Afghanistan. The letter should state the purpose of your visit, how long you intend to stay in the country and who will be responsible for your expenses while in the country.
- A business letter from your employer stating your name, your role in the company and the purpose of your travel to Afghanistan should be submitted.
- You are also required to provide a copy of your most recent bank account statements as proof that you are financially able to cater to your needs while in Afghanistan.
- Proof of hotel accommodation for the entire duration of your stay in Afghanistan should also be provided.
- You should note that the visa allows a maximum stay of 30 days and must be used within 3 months of its issuance.
- If you intend to travel to Afghanistan for investment or other business purposes, you must submit the following documents:
- Introduction of the business visa applicant by the Chambers of Commerce or other competent authorities of the country to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
- Providing work permit and description of business activities;
- Providing the relevant company address (in Afghanistan, or in the country of origin)
- Documents providing the type of commercial activities, payment of taxes and bank account number.
