Even though Afghanistan has a lot to offer especially to the brave tourists, it’s an extremely dangerous country to visit due to it being a war zone. Terrorism is a huge problem with the government forces fighting against Taliban insurgents.
Travel to Kabul is strongly advised against due to it being a lethal war zone. Despite the turmoil in Afghanistan, the country manages to pull in a reasonable number of tourists annually. On average, about 20,000 tourists visit the country.
Tourists should avoid trying to preach to or convert Muslims to other faiths, it is highly forbidden and regarded as a crime. Use and possession of narcotics, alcohol and pork products is a violation of the Afghan laws and orders. Homosexuality is also illegal in the country.

Afghanistan Tourist Visa Eligibility &
Requirements
- The Afghanistan tourist visa is issued to Singaporeans traveling to the country for tourism or visitation purposes.
- The Afghanistan tourist visas are usually single-entry, valid for three months, with a one month authorized stay. The visa cannot be renewed.
- Applicants visiting family or friends are required to write a letter of introduction stating whom they intend to visit in Afghanistan.
- A letter of invitation must also be provided by the applicant.
- Applicants visiting for tourism purposes must state in detail the nature of their tour and places they intend to travel in Afghanistan.
- Applicants born in Afghanistan don’t need a visa, just an entry permit.
- A health clearance letter indicating that the person is not suffering from any contagious diseases will be required.
- Polio vaccination up to 1 year before travel is recommended.
- Currency restriction for entry into and exit out of Afghanistan is 20,000 USD or equivalent in Afghanistan currency.
- Consent letter for minors under 16 is required.
- Foreigners arriving in Afghanistan are fingerprinted during the immigration process. Foreign passengers arriving at the Kabul International Airport are expected to register with a representative of the Ministry of Interior’s Foreigners’ Registration Office.
- The registration card must be returned upon the foreign national’s departure from Afghanistan.
- Islam provides the foundation for Afghan customs, laws, and practices. Foreign visitors are expected to remain sensitive to the Islamic culture and not dress in a revealing or provocative manner, including the wearing of sleeveless shirts and blouses, halter-tops, and shorts.
- Possession of alcohol is illegal in Afghanistan.
- Access to banking facilities in Afghanistan is limited and unreliable. The economy generally operates on a cash-only basis.

Requirements
- Singaporeans can travel to Afghanistan for business purposes with the Afghanistan business visa.
- Unlike the tourist visa, the business visa can be extendable and renewed.
- There are five types of the Afghanistan business visa:
- Three-month multiple visas: This visa is valid for three months and it costs US$40.
- Six-month multiple visa: this visa is valid for six months and it costs US $80.
- One-year multiple visa: this visa is valid for one year and it costs US $160.
- Two-year multiple visa: this visa is valid for two years and it costs US$250.
- Three-year multiple visa: this visa is valid for three years and it costs US$300.
- An introduction or permission letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chamber of Commerce, or other related official bodies must be provided by the applicant.
- The applicant must provide a reference number from the ministry of foreign affairs.
- Travelers are required to provide their work permits and business license.
- Business visa is available on arrival at Hamid Karzai International Airport.
- The address of the company in Afghanistan must be provided.
- Documents providing the type of commercial activities, payment of taxes and bank account numbers are required.
- An invitation letter from the sponsor company in Afghanistan stating the applicant’s business purposes and duration of stay must also be provided.
- This visa can be extended but the extension application has to be done at least 7 days before your visa expires.
- In the event that you overstay your visa without extending, you are required to get an exit visa from the Ministry of the Interior Affairs, after payment of fine for the number of days you overstayed.
