Her life and childhood itself portray how women are treated in Afghanistan.
Her parents weren’t happy when she was born just because of her gender.

News has surfaced that her parents even left her in the sun for hours. She could have died right there and no one would bat an eye.

However, God had some other plans, she not only survived but also became the only girl (out of seven) from her family to attend school.

Her father, a member of the parliament at the time, certainly couldn’t care less about women’s rights. Despite all the odds, she graduated from the university and did her master’s in Business and Management.

Koofi is also a member of UNICEF. From 2002 to 2004 she actively engaged with the organization and worked for the welfare of children and marginalized women as a child protection officer.

It was a golden opportunity for her to enter and thrive in politics. And she did exactly that and vowed to become a politician.

In 2005 she was elected in the lower house of Afghanistan National Assembly, Wolesi Jirga, for the first time.
She took this opportunity to work on women’s rights and help marginalized girls, especially in remote areas.

Koofi married Hamid, her late husband, who was a chemistry teacher as well as an engineer.

Her parents arranged her marriage with him against her will. But she had no choice but to accept and continue with her life.

She has two daughters whom she took care of herself as a single mother.

Working as a women activist for women’s rights in a country dominated by ignorant terrorists and militants, she faced multiple unsuccessful assassination attempts.

The last assassination attempt on Koofi was made unsuccessful on the 8th of March, 2010.

She recently criticized the American government for abandoning Afghan women, kids, and citizens during their worst times.
