Fruits offer us such healthy alternatives, we protect ourselves from a whole range of diseases and strengthen our immune system. Most of them quickly become favorites because not only are they packed with nutrients, but they are also very sweet. However, many of us only ingest the fleshy sweet parts of the fruit and discard the outer parts, which we call peels. The skins are mostly perceived as unpleasant, tasteless and unpleasant, and people do not hesitate to rip or tear off them to enjoy the main fruit.
It will interest you to know that by tossing these when you peel them, you are also discarding any extra nutrients that come with the fruit. While not as sweet as the pulp itself, there are some fruit peels that offer as many, and in some cases even more, health benefits to us. We’ll show you three of them.
ORANGE PEELS
While orange is considered the best source of vitamin C, the orange peel contains up to 60 types of flavonoids and over 170 different phytonutrients and is as rich in various pectins, vitamins, minerals and fiber as the pulp.
Despite the bitter taste, this peeling mixes into your diet will help weight loss as it contains an impressive amount of fiber and very low calories. Adding it to food will lower overall calorie intake, thereby aiding in weight loss as well. The presence of high levels of histamine, reducing compounds, and antioxidants make it an excellent support against shortness of breath.
Throwing it in has proven the benefit of keeping cancer at bay and the fact that it contains nobiletin (a polymethoxylated flavone) which has a positive effect on the heart and becomes practically irresistible.
Orange peels are also good stimulants for the skin. If carefully dried and ground, it can be used for various skin conditions, including wrinkles, darkening of the eyes, and others.

cucumber peel
Most people prefer peeling the skin off of cucumbers. The fruit’s best taste is mild, refreshing, and unique (yes, cucumber is a fruit), and while this still offers a wealth of nutritional benefits, many nutrients come from the discarded peel.
Cucumber peels are high in insoluble fiber, which is the type of fiber that helps cleanse your digestive tract. The scrubs therefore help relieve and prevent constipation. The vitamin K content of cucumber peel is also much higher than that of a peeled cucumber, and vitamin K helps activate proteins your body needs for healthy bone maintenance, cell growth, and blood clotting. Cucumber peels are also low in calories, which helps with weight loss.
Throw in the fact that cucumber peels are also a hidden source of beta-carotene (a precursor to vitamin A), known for its beneficial effects on eye health and vision. Again, you should have enough encouragement to eat this cucumber with its skin on.
BANANA PEEL
We bet almost everyone is guilty of discarding the banana peel after consuming the main fruit. But here’s something you should know; The banana peel is richer in potassium and fiber than the fruit. It also contains lutein, a powerful antioxidant that helps maintain healthy eye function. Tryptophan, an essential amino acid, is also more concentrated in the peel than the fruit. Along with its long list of uses, tryptophan is also believed to fight depression by increasing the body’s levels of serotonin, a neurotransmitter in the brain that affects mood. Why do you not only want to be physically healthy but also emotionally healthy?
Banana peel can also be used for some skin remedies. Rubbing the inside of your teeth can help with teeth whitening. You can also reduce cracked heels by simply rubbing the inside of a banana peel on the affected area. Banana peels also relieve pain from burned skin.
Try eating a banana peel by juicing both the peel and the banana (ripe or overripe) or boiling the peel for a few minutes to soften it. You can also toss it in a pan, certainly anything to reap those nutritious benefits.
