If you’re looking for some comedy movies on Netflix, you have come to the right place.
With a wide selection of comedic films that are sure to make people laugh, Netflix covers all of its bases. These films range from the legendary Netflix standup special to originals and more.
But it can be challenging to choose what to watch with such a popular genre on such a large platform. We’ve searched the library and compiled the top comedies available on Netflix right now to assist you. Here are some of the funniest and finest comedies now available on Netflix.
1. Don’t Look Up (2021)
IMDb Rate: 7.2
Director: Adam McKay
Stars: Leonardo Di Caprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep
Two astronomers find a large comet on its way to Earth. Humanity will perish in six months if nothing is done about the comet. They can meet the U.S. President, appear on TV discussion shows, and have their tale published in the media, but everyone seems to be focused on something else.
Don’t Look Up is a humorous and truthful assessment of the perverted priorities and ambitions of the individuals who have the most influence over our lives, written and directed by The Big Short, Vice, The Other Guys, and Anchorman director Adam McKay.
It’s all so chillingly true and believable that you can connect to the foolish, egotistical goals of these organizations and people, as well as the helplessness and annoyance you feel when you have to deal with them and their choices.
You’d rather not be reminded of how inept, superficial, self-serving, and sinister the government, media, etc. are, how they regularly ruin your life, and how likely they will finally wipe out humanity. This makes the movie occasionally annoying to watch.
By the way, watch all the way through. Two moments are woven into or following the credits that are worth watching.
2. The Nice Guys (2016)
IMDb Rate: 7.3
Director: Shane “Black”
Stars: Russel Crowe, Ryan Gosling, Angourie Rice
“The Nice Guys” is funny, smart, action-packed, violent, irreverent, and entertaining all at the same time without ever having tonal shift problems.
It molds so many elements into one package that will give you a blast at the movies and won’t alienate you even with the sudden appearance of a giant talking bug in a car. This is Shane doing what he excels at the most and doing it at his very best.
The Nice Guys is essentially a buddy police comedy, with a private investigator and a tough contract man searching for the same female who has become embroiled in political and adult intrigue instead of actual cops.
3. The Other Guys (2010)
IMDb Rate: 6.6
Director: Adam McKay
Stars: Will Ferell, Dwyane Johnson, Mark Wahlberg, Derek Jeter
The two underachieving New York cops, Allen Gamble and Terry Hoitz, played by Will Ferrel and Mark Wahlberg, live in the shadow of the two super-cops Christopher Danson (Dwayne Johnson), P.K. Highsmith(Samuel L. Jackson), along with the rest of the force.
Allen and Terry decide to take the initiative and embark on an investigation of their own after an unforeseen turn of events forces Danson and Highsmith out of commission. This causes them to clash with foreign operations and an egotistical tycoon.
The Other Guys is exactly what it sets out to be, and it succeeds spectacularly. It delivers exactly what it promises: a fast-paced action comedy for all ages that parodies the buddy cop genre.
Ferrel and Wahlberg get along well, and their continual tiffs and personality conflicts are consistently entertaining. They both give their all to their performances, and their commitment increases the enjoyment of the film.
4. Clueless (1995)
IMDb Rate: 6.9
Director: Amy Heckerling
Stars: Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash, Britanny Murphy
Clueless, a romantic high school comedy, was one of the most innovative teen films of the 1990s and quickly gained cult status after its 1995 debut. Since it is based on Jane Austen’s Emma (1815), the queen of romance, the title “original” may be misused. However, Clueless modernized the old tale by adding high school drama, teenage girls, shopping, and liberal amounts of humor.
The movie’s protagonist is Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone), the most popular student at Beverly Hills High School. Contrary to appearances, Cher is a cunning and skilled manipulator who knows how to obtain what she wants.
Cher works behind the scenes to set up romantic encounters between different students. She even arranges a romance between two professors to lighten their spirits and prevent them from assigning harsh grades. She is an expert at loving everyone but herself, much like Emma.
5. Do Revenge (2022)
IMDb Rate: 6.4
Director: Jennifer Kaytin Robinson
Stars: Camila Mendes, Austin Abrams, Maya Hawke
Do Revenge is the newest comedy on Netflix in 2022, starring Camila and Maya playing the role of wicked high-schoolers.
You will be duped and hoodwinked along the way, with treachery and betrayal as the mainstay. There won’t be time to reflect or think, as the tables will turn and bridges will burn. It’s a modern film with cruel intentions, mean girls, and cluelessness. It’s lighthearted and entertaining for a girls’ night out.
The desperate and repugnant lengths the ladies of Rosehill Country Day High School will go to to outdo each other are depicted in an elegant manner that captures your interest and leaves you stunned by their propensity to cheat, trick, deceive, and mislead—often in the most spectacular of ways and with little regard for the repercussions.
6. The Edge of Seventeen (2016)
IMDb Rate: 7.3
Director: Kelly Fremon Craig
Stars: Hailee Steinfeld, Blake Jenner, Haley Lu Richardson
The narrative of Nadine (Hailee Steinfeld), who fought with her mother(Kyra Sedgwick) and adored her father, is told in “The Edge of Seventeen.” At age 13, her father passed away. Except for Krista (Haley Lu Richardson), her best friend since the second grade, her existence is one of depressing sarcasm.
She despises Darian (Blake Jenner), her ideal brother. She is in lust with criminal Nick Mossman, even though dorky Erwin Kim has a crush on her. To Krista’s horror, she begins dating Darian.
Nadine couldn’t stand the relationship between Krista and Darian, so she drew a line in the sand and gave Krista a choice between her and her brother. Nadine abandoned Krista’s refusal to respond, leaving her friendless and alone—except for her favorite teacher, Mr. Bruner(Woody Harrelson)—as they navigated high school, life, and all of its unpleasant situations.
There is something in The Edge of Seventeen for everyone, whether you were a Darian who appeared to have never had difficulty or a Nadine who identified as an “old soul,” always felt out of place in your generation, and missed out on the “beer pong ice breakers.”
7. Hustle (2022)
IMDb Rate: 7.3
Director: Jeremiah Zagar
Stars: Adam Sandler, Juancho Hernangomez, Queen Latifah
Hustle is an impressive Netflix original that pushes the formulaic “Hoop Dreams” out of its comfort zone into a fun drama that emphasizes ambition, brotherly love (it’s set in Philadelphia, after all), and familial support—qualities that could apply to any underdog battling against overwhelming odds.
You’ll like this well-made movie even if you’re not a basketball fan. You’ll adore this Adam Sandler and LeBron James collaboration, though, if you are.
It’s a wonderful and moving narrative that’s expertly handled, and Sandler and real NBA star Juancho Hernangomez deliver standout performances and chemistry. There are plenty of additional NBA players and famous people that you will witness. Both the directing and the cinematography are first-rate.
8. When Harry Met Sally (1989)
IMDb Rate: 7.7
Director: Rob Reiner
Stars: Billy Crystal, Carrie Fisher, Meg Ryan
Can men and women ever just be friends without the seduction of romance ever making an appearance? Over fifteen years ago, this movie memorably posed and glibly answered this question.
It seems to smugly reveal that it has demonstrated its point: men and women can never just “be friends” — love is always the tie that binds them. It chronicles the journey of Harry and Sally, a couple of charming, though neurotic, Manhattanites, from enemies to confidants to lovers.
But the movie is so cunning and persistent in pursuing this objective that it doesn’t seem like an opposing viewpoint was ever explored. The friendship-turned-to-love theme has only been expertly handled by a select few movies.
9. Notting Hill (1999)
IMDb Rate: 7.2
Director: Roger Michell
Stars: Julia Roberts, Hugh Grant, Richard McCabe
Julia Roberts is the queen of rom-com. Her favorite part in Pretty Woman should be enough to earn her the title, but she has starred in many films, some of which were fantastic and others that weren’t. She did pick an excellent one in Notting Hill, though.
Notting Hill is a charming, lighthearted romantic comedy that succeeds on all fronts. The tale is more creative and well-written than it might appear from the trailers. This movie is about movie stars who truly engage in thought-provoking dialogue regarding their status as movie stars.
In the major part, Hugh Grant is also handsome. Except for the Oscar-nominated Pretty Woman, Roberts actually offers the best “Rom-Com” performance in this. She maintains her composure and acts in character; she’s not shrill or obnoxious. This is some of her most underappreciated work.
10. Miss Congeniality (2000)
IMDb Rate: 6.3
Director: Donald Petrie
Stars: Sandra Bullock, Benjamin Bratt, Michael Caine
This comedy has a humorous story with lots of sharp hooks, and Sandra Bullock gives a fantastic, endearing, full-throttle performance.
Sandra Bullock plays FBI Agent Gracie Hart in the movie Miss Congeniality. She has to pose as a contestant in the Miss USA competition to stop a psychopath from killing countless people. Bullock has chemistry with all of her co-stars, which results in a ton of humor.
She is an extremely underrated comic actress, and it is wonderful to see how she can connect with the entire cast. Even though it doesn’t push the bounds of comedy, the film is thankfully continuously funny. This is made possible by a strong ensemble who elevate the comedy above what the writing would have you believe it was capable of.
11. The Mitchells vs. the Machines (2021)
IMDb Rate: 7.6
Directors: Michael Rianda, Jeff Rowe
Stars Voice: Abbi Jacobson, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph
A Netflix animated movie ultimately found itself in its embrace. The Mitchells vs. The Machines is not only an interesting take on the family road dramedy subgenre, but it also could be the most enjoyable animated movie in a while.
There’s no knowing what the future holds for moviegoers if Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation continue to produce entertaining thrill rides that pass for cutting-edge experiments. If you haven’t already, log into your Netflix account and watch the movie. Now is the best time ever to reconnect with your passion for cinema.
12. Onward (2020)
IMDb Rate: 7.4
Director: Dan Scanlon
Stars Voice: Tom Holland, Chris Patt, Julia Louis-Dreyfus
You’ll both laugh and cry while watching this film. It’s a terrific movie about siblings and the incredible friendship they can have—funny, action-packed, and heartbreaking. It engages the viewer’s emotions and gives them a sense of the epic.
It’s well-balanced because the film stresses the adventure element while still including humorous and deeply touching parts when you’ll undoubtedly be impacted. It’s a fantastic film that will introduce you to some role-playing concepts in a way you probably hadn’t considered before. Great for both children and adults.
13. Dolemite Is My Name (2019)
IMDb Rate: 7.2
Director: Craig Brewer
Stars: Eddie Murphy, Mike Epps, Keegan-Michael Key
Rudy Ray Moore was a major player in the blaxploitation movement in the early 20th century and has been referred to as the “father of rap.” Eddie Murphy, who gives his best career performance as Rudy Ray Moore, is primarily responsible.
The movie “Dolemite is My Name” is an entertaining account of his rise to fame as a recording artist and actor, but it focuses more on his role in the movie industry’s enthusiasm for sexy, violent, and humorous films with colored actors who portray their own imaginative lives rather than those as seen through the eyes of Caucasian people.
It expertly blends tragic and comic aspects, creating a respectful and accurate biopic. Unquestionably worth seeing, and another Netflix hit.
14. The Two Popes (2019)
IMDb Rate: 7.6
Director: Fernando Meirelles
Stars: Jonathan Pryce, Juan Minjuin, Anthony Hopkins
You would assume from the title alone that this is about religion or propaganda to restore the Vatican’s glory, but it isn’t. Two hours of someone’s life show how development may be made even in the most challenging circumstances.
In this film, Jonathan Pryce portrays Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, who unexpectedly became Pope Francis when Benedict (Anthony Hopkins) was still alive. The pope’s elderly age appears to have been the stated cause for his resignation. However, the movie presents a very different perspective.
Whether or not you identify as religious, you may still enjoy this movie and learn how two individuals with very different worldviews can have a meaningful dialogue and ultimately become friends.
It is a MUST-SEE but not fully accurate to real-life events. Take pleasure in the movie for what it is—simply, it’s amazing—Bravo to Netflix for producing this movie.
15. Murder Mystery (2019)
IMDb Rate: 6
Director: Kyle Newacheck
Stars: Jennifer Aniston, Adam Sandler, Luke Evans
In this hilarious whodunit comedy, Sandler and Aniston team up once more. For the third time, NYPD officer Nick Spitz (Adam Sandler) struggles to pass the detective test and hides it from his spouse Audrey (Jennifer Aniston). She encourages him to take a trip to Europe. She enters first-class illegally and meets Viscount Charles Cavendish (Luke Evans), who invites the duo to his boat for a family party.
Malcolm Quince (Terence Stamp), the head of the family and Charles’ uncle, announces that he is leaving his money to his new wife, Suzi. Before he can sign the new will, he is killed. It’s a murder mystery weekend filled with crazy Clue characters.
Adam and Jennifer have great chemistry, and the rest of the group is funny and well-cast. You action comedy enthusiasts should be satisfied with the action moments because they were fantastic.
The gags won’t let down fans of the genre because they are frequently used, aren’t overly crude, and bring back the good old Sandler days.
16. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
IMDb Rate: 7.1
Director: Adam McKay
Stars: Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Christina Applegate
This is a movie that is acutely aware of its foolishness, and most of all, it knows how to embrace it so that it can be as childish and foolish as it pleases. Every moviegoer will remember this as a brilliant comic masterpiece because of its hilarious remarks and unbeatable cast.
When the hair was as enormous as the lapels and women were just starting to take their proper place in America’s television newsrooms, the 1970s are brought back to life in “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.”
Despite being a pure comedy, it does raise some important problems, such as equality (which was still a problem in the 70s). Although there is a serious undertone, everything is handled humorously without ever making fun of the situation.
17. Wedding Crashers (2005)
IMDb Rate: 7
Director: David Dobkin
Stars: Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams
From beginning to end, it is a heartfelt and funny comedy performed to perfection. John Beckwith and Jeremy Grey are devout bachelors who take pleasure in their womanizing ways. Due to their weaker defenses, they specialize in crashing weddings and luring ladies away for one-night encounters.
Even though John is worn out from chasing after so many ladies, the promise of “one last major task” tempts him to return and crash the wedding of Treasury Secretary Cleary’s daughter.
Things go smoothly until John develops feelings for Claire Cleary. Jeremy finds himself stuck with the obnoxiously clingy Gloria when the two accept an offer to return to the Cleary family’s weekend getaway.
The chemistry between the boys elevates this film. Wilson has the boy next door charm, whereas Vaugh has the hysterical rantings. They make the perfect bromance together. That is the main lesson to be learned from this film.
18. Single All The Way (2021)
IMDb Rate: 6.1
Director: Michael Mayer
Stars: Michael Urie, Philemon Chambers, Luke Macfarlane
The first LGBT holiday rom-com on Netflix, Single All The Way, is a complete thrill. For many decades, the Christmas movie genre has been full of heterosexual plots and actors. This is one of the few movies where the story isn’t about coming out and drama but about joy and families being family!
It’s about what the true meaning of Christmas should be: spending time with family, showing each other love, and accepting one another because that’s what this nation is supposed to be about.
19. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018)
IMDb Rate: 7
Director: Susan Johnson
Stars: Lana Condor, Noah Centineo, Janel Parrish
Netflix has scorched the rom-com market. While other major film studios have backed away from this adored genre, Netflix has tapped into this untapped market by churning out a continuous supply of rom-com. One of the rom-com to date is perhaps “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.”
Because it is so endearing and optimistic, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before surpasses the majority of current high school movie fare. It is yet another excellent entry in the teen rom-com genre that, despite following a well-worn path, retains a sense of freshness and gains greatly from the group of well-written characters that its young, brilliant ensemble expertly brings to life.
20. Pee-wee’s Big Holiday
IMDb Rate: 6.1
Director: John Lee
Stars: Paul Reubens, Doug Cox
Actor Paul Reubens revived his Pee-wee Herman persona for this Netflix-only film after many years of absence. You might assume that Reubens would have developed a unique plot for a new movie after all those years of keeping his famous character out of the spotlight, but that’s not the case.
From the children’s television program “PEE-WEE’S PLAYHOUSE” from the 1980s, Paul Reubens reprises his iconic role as Pee-Wee Herman (and two feature films). In this new journey, Pee-Wee goes to New York to attend the birthday celebration of a new buddy (actor Joe Manganiello).
