20/20: David Turpin – Where Is He Today?
David Turpin is a former computer engineer who tortured his children for three decades. Arrested in 2018, he is serving a life sentence at California State Prison, Corcoran.
On 19 November 2021, a 20/20 Diane Sawyer special, Escape From A House Of Horror, airs on ABC at 9 pm ET. The show features two of the escaped children, Jordan and Jennifer Turpin.
David and his wife, Louise, kept their 13 children as captives. But, on 14 January 2018, two of the girls escaped the house through a window. While the younger one became frightened and turned back, the other called 911 via cell phone. She then showed the photos of the house to the police officers.
After that, the deputies of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department raided and found the other children, one shackled to a bed. Police thought that all the children were under 18 due to malnourishment but later found that seven were over 18.
You never know who might spark hope in your darkest time. Jordan Turpin tells me it was @justinbieber who began to open her eyes to a world beyond the life of abuse and imprisonment at the hands of her parents.

The children then spent several weeks in the hospital. After that, the six minors found themselves in two foster homes. The county’s Deputy District Attorney, in early 2020, reported that some of the children lived independently in their apartment and had jobs and are going to school, while others volunteer in the community. And one graduated college.
The Turpins got charged with over twenty counts including, torture, false imprisonment, and child abuse.
On 22 February 2019, the couple pleaded guilty to one count of torture, three counts of willful child cruelty, four counts of false imprisonment, and six counts of cruelty to an adult dependent. They received a sentence of life imprisonment with a possibility of parole after 25 years.
David originally served his time at Mule Creek State Prison but got transferred to the California State Prison. As for Louise, she is in Central California Women’s Facility.
David Turpin Wikipedia
Although David Turpin doesn’t have a dedicated Wikipedia page, he does feature under Turpin Case.
Sixty years old, he was born on 17 October 1961. A computer engineer, he was a Virginia Tech graduate. He had worked for corporations Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman.
In 1979, he graduated from Princeton High School, which his wife, Louise Anna Turpin, also attended. They married in 1985 in Pearisburg, Virginia, and had thirteen children, ten daughters, and three sons. Adherents of the Quiverfull movement and Pentecostalism, the couple kept having children believing that God called on them to do so.
Louise’s maternal grandfather sexually abused her, her sister, and a female cousin as children. Another sister said that their mother allowed their grandfather for cash. They have also said that Louise became obsessed with witchcraft, Satanic rituals, and Ouija boards and that Louise and David engaged in “swinging.”
In 2018, 17-year-old Jordan Turpin had only been outside a few times in her life.
Thinking of her siblings chained back at the house, she dialed 911 on an old cell phone her parents didn’t know she had.

In 1999, the Turpins moved to Rio Vista from Fort Worth and again shifted in 2010. Following their leave, their neighbors found feces, rope-tied beds, dead cats, and piles of garbages around the property.
At their California home, neighbors reported that their children remained silent unless the other instigated a conversation. They also appeared malnourished and pale.
However, the children weren’t always in captivity. There are photos of the parents and the children visiting Disneyland in Anaheim. It appears that David and Louise were fans of Disney. The vanity plates on their cars were DLand and DL4ever.
The couple was planning a move to Oklahoma at the time of their arrest in 2018.
