2 Philly Police Officers Shot: 4th July Fireworks in Philadelphia

On Monday night, two police officers were shot as they were taking part in Fourth of July celebrations in Philadelphia.

Around ten o’clock in the evening, shortly after the fireworks display had begun, there was a shooting.

Action News has learned from sources that they think the gunfire originated on Eakins Oval, in front of the Art Museum but behind the main stage.

Officers responding to the chaos could be heard on police radio asking for the fireworks show to be stopped as fireworks continued to go off.

People were seen scurrying and screaming after multiple gunshots were heard at the celebration.

Where Are The Two Philly Officers Now?

According to police, both officers were taken to Jefferson Hospital and given stable conditions. At the hospital right now, there are many police officers present.

Police claim that a highway patrol officer from Philadelphia suffered a head graze.

The right shoulder of a second officer was shot, who was working for the Montgomery County Bomb Squad.

Police sources claim that neither the shooter nor the shooters were on high ground or firing from a structure.

Officers from neighboring counties frequently assist Philadelphia police during events in the city, and that officer was there to do so.

Malcolm Kenyatta, a Pennsylvania representative who represents the 181st district, urged people to stay away from the area on Twitter.

Is The Suspect Arrested?

There are no suspects in police custody. There is no information on where the shots were fired.

However, police are searching for the shooter who shot the two officers at the fourth of July celebration.

The incident took place on the 2500 block of Spring Garden Street just before 10 o’clock.

According to CBS3’s Joe Holden, this may have all started because of police pulling over a car.

The shooting caused large crowds to flee the Welcome America concert and fireworks on the Parkway.

A center for family reunions that may have been broken up during the commotion has been established by the Philadelphia Police Department at the Free Library of Philadelphia.
