If some celebrities were cats, they would have lost their 9 lives, thanks to celebrity death pranks that refused to stop resurfacing. In fact, for some of them, we get used to hearing that they died over and over again. Nevertheless, there are celebrities that such pranks about their death broke the internet.
The most surprising thing about these pranks is that while they claim living people are dead, others claim that those who died like Tupac are still alive somewhere and have been sighted.
Celebrity death hoaxes
1. Sylvester Stallone
As for Sylvester Stallone, we just don’t learn. More than once in the past death pranks have fallen on him, and we kept falling for him. On June 13, 2014, it was reported by a fake news site, Global Associated News, that actor Rocky died in a snowboarding accident in Switzerland. It was again reported in August of the same year that he had died in a car accident, but this time it was in Australia.
In 2016, someone took the gracious effort of creating an image that looks like a CNN footage, just to spread the news of the actor’s death. The death hoax about Sylvester Stallone that broke the internet came in 2018 when it was announced by someone on Facebook on February 18 that the actor had died of prostate cancer, using a Fragile photo of the actor. Within 24 hours it had spread on Instagram and the internet, but Sylvester and his brother, Frank Stallone, quickly debunked the claim.
2. Rowan Atkinson
There are many people who, until now, know whether Mr. Bean is dead or alive due to the number of times he has been killed on the internet. In 2012, someone took to Twitter to claim the actor died in a car accident. The next time he died on the internet was in 2016, when someone was crazy enough to spread the news that Atkinson had taken his own life.
And then in 2018, the madness resurfaced, claiming the actor died in the same way as many other celebrity death pranks – car accident. The only thing, however, was that instead of 2018, the date on the image used was 2017. Besides the fact that it was Mr Bean, one of the other reasons the news broke on the Internet was that the hoax was used to send viruses to the computers of people who clicked on the links.
3. Expensive
The pop goddess was also not spared death on the Internet, where she was forced to die more than once. In 2015, she would have died on December 15. Although no reason was given for her death, a Facebook page was created for her, attracting over a million likes.
The Cher death hoax that broke the internet came years before, in 2012 when it was reported on Twitter (where many celebrities die before they die) that the recording artist had died at age 65, and her body was found at her Malibu home. The news that was supposed to come from CNN caught the attention of so many, including Kim Kardashian, who tweeted that she hoped it wasn’t true. And of course not.
4. Jackie Chan
Action star Jackie Chan is another celebrity who had to tell the world more than once that he was still alive, repeatedly breaking the internet. In 2011, he woke up twice to find himself dead on the internet. The Rush Hour actor reportedly first died in March 2011 after suffering a heart attack. The news went wild, but her reps were quick to come out and hang the news.
He would suffer the misfortune of news resurfacing again in August of the same year when it was claimed he had died again on Facebook. The page that started the report garnered almost a hundred thousand likes.
The next time he broke the internet was in 2013 when it was again claimed he was dead. This time around, he said if he died, he would probably tell the world.
5. Miley Cyrus
Cyrus found his name swimming in the muddy waters of celebrity death channeling more than once and shutting down the internet twice for it. In 2014, the singer left Twitter for 3 days and news came to Facebook that she was found dead in her home from an overdose. Fans were too quick to believe her as she hadn’t shared anything on Twitter. In order to put the news to rest, Miley Cyrus uploaded a topless photo to Instagram.
That wouldn’t end the deadly prank as in 2016, she fell victim to the same again when it was reported that the wrecking ball singer had died in her bathtub. What helped the news this time spread even more was Hollywood Life made a post about it stating that it wasn’t true but their headline didn’t help matters because a lot of people who didn’t read the news believed she was actually dead.
6.Lady Gaga
The singer has not been spared the vice of the death hoax either. News of her alleged death circulated on the internet in 2013. The news first appeared on a Facebook page claiming the singer’s body was found in a hotel room. Clicking on the link took visitors to a fake BBC website, but like all other hoaxes, it was discovered for too long that was just what it was.
Nonetheless, the Facebook page that started the fake news had millions of likes as well as hundreds of comments on the post.
It wasn’t the only time news came out that Lady Gaga had lost her life; in 2011 there were also the same reports claiming that she was found dead in a hotel room.
7. Paris Hilton
Hilton spared nothing, not even ending up on the list of celebrity death pranks. The interesting thing, or not, about her is that she suffered more times than many others.
In 2012, the internet was interrupted when it was reported that Paris Hilton had been killed in a car accident. Unfortunately, one of the reports claimed that alcohol and drugs may have caused the accident.
In 2007, it was claimed that Hilton had died in prison where she was serving a 45-day prison sentence for violating her probation. Although true at the time she was serving her sentence, the report that she was stabbed was completely false and obviously the report that she was dead.
8. Jeff Goldblum
In 2009, American actor Jeff Goldblum became a victim of celebrity death hoaxes when it was reported that the Jurassic Park star fell off a cliff in New Zealand to his death. While the news was being shared, the actor couldn’t reach his mom soon enough to tell her it was all fake. Because of this, she was distraught before reaching out to confirm that it was all wrong.
Apart from his mother, his friends and fans were also worried, but no deaths were reported on a serious site and he came out later to calm his nerves.
9. Macaulay Culkin
Anyone who has watched Home Alone will definitely like Macaulay Culkin. However, his life was not one of the smoothest that many would have wished for him. But then, he is still very much alive though news of his death, thanks to those who have mastered the graceful art of the death hoax, has broken the internet in the past.
News of his supposed death hit the internet in November 2014, claiming the actor disappeared in New York and was found dead at the age of 34.
To debunk the rumours, the actor took to social media where he lay motionless in his bandmate’s arms, but that didn’t help either, so he took to his band’s twitter to take a punch during his tour.
10. Tom Cruise
Mission Impossible Tom Cruise found himself dead in 2010 on the Internet like many other celebrities who were killed by scammers. He was killed in a rather bizarre way by the post claiming to have lost his life in New Zealand after a plumbing incident.
According to the report which comes from According to Global Associated News, the actor’s death was confirmed by the Royal Queensland Police and his body was identified using an identity card which was found to him after the accident.
Although the site that started the report said it was 100% false, that didn’t stop the internet from going wild. Like most, Tom Cruise took to his social media to tell his fans that he was still alive.
